4 weeks part time: Delivered intensively over 4 weeks as a module within the DT9876 Postgraduate Certificate in BIM Technologies / MSc Applied Building Information Modelling & Management programme, generally Semester 1 September to January.

Programme description:
The CPD Certificate in BIM Architecture 1 (Primary building elements) module is a 5 ECTS credit part time re-skilling module. It is primarily aimed at architects and technologists, but is also open to other professionals with a background in building design.
The module is set at Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications and aims to provide learners with an introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM), with a focus on primary building elements.
Industry-based building designs will be used as the basis for project work to give a realistic context and to render the student industry fit on graduation.
Over eight 3-hour contact sessions, combined with a period of self-directed learning, students will develop a command of the Autodesk Revit BIM application.
On successful completion of the CPD Certificate in BIM Architecture 1 (Primary Building Elements) module the student will be able to:
- Select an appropriate application template to begin a building project
- Describe the organisation of the GUI and identify the hierarchy to locate and execute commands and subcommands on the GUI
- Set up grids and levels for precise 3D element drawing
- Interpret sketch and CAD designs for creation of a BIM project
- Control graphic representation in Revit views
- Construct and edit primary building elements
- Use Parameters in Revit
- Organise digital building data onto plotting sheets
- Evaluate the quality, appropriateness, and significance of a specific BIM Technology for Architectural processes
Programme attendance:
The module requires 100 learning hours. Students attend two 3-hour computer lab-based workshops each week for four weeks, with a total of 24 contact hours spent in college, and the remaining 76 hours spent in self-directed learning completing project work.
The 3 hour tutorial block attendance in college will take place between 18.00-21.00 on two midweek days.
Career opportunities:
This programme will provide built environment professionals and recent Level 8 graduates with an additional skill set centred on Building Information Modelling which will enable employment as a BIM skilled professional in building design practices and the construction industry
Progression:
The BIM Architecture 1 (Primary Building Elements) module is the first of three related BIM Architecture modules, and can combine towards a CPD Diploma (BIM Architecture) award.
Graduates can also progress to the 1 year part time DT9876 Postgraduate Certificate in BIM Technologies / Postgraduate Diploma in Collaborative BIM / MSc in Applied Building Information Modeling & Management (MSc aBIMM), subject to minimum postgraduate entry requirements.
Entry requirements:
The BIM Architecture 1 (Primary Building Elements) module is open to the following categories of applicants:
- Graduates of Level 8 degree programmes in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Architectural Technology, Construction Management
- Professionally accredited Level 7 programmes in Architectural Technology and Construction Technology.
All students are required to have sound basic computer skills, and experience of construction processes.
